Friday Evening

Some shots from our back yard this evening:  hungry hummers, acorn woodpecker at the feeder, and a visit from Owen.

In years past we've had as many as 13 or 14 hummers that come to our feeder (see photo below - taken in 2006), but this year we've spotted only 4 (maybe 5)  visitors - it's hard to tell because they move so quickly!    Besides the feeder, they have been enjoying the honeysuckle and sage in our yard.

And of course our day wouldn't be complete without a visit from our dear friend, Owen.

Mr. Woodpecker has to work at his free meal, as he's a bit too big to fit on the perches at the feeder.

Hope everyone's weekend is off to a good start!

An Evening at Pomar Junction Winery

This evening we visited Pomar Junction Winery to sit under the oak trees, listen to some mellow music, snack a bit, and of course enjoy some wine.  Grab a glass of wine and join us!

Pomar Junction is located where El Pomar and South El Pomar intersect, east of Templeton and about 4 miles from our house.

The winery has a railroad theme, with several old railroad cars and signs, and sell these cute little rubber ducks in the gift shop.
We appreciated the large shady trees.

Time to go home!

Colorful Crop

We were driving into San Luis Obispo from Morro Bay on Sunday along Los Osos Valley Road (known as LOVR for short).  Anyway, the land in this valley is quite rich and is planted in many kinds of vegetables.  But occasionally, they plant flowers for seeds.

On one side of the road were yellow marigolds........

and orange marigolds.

Then a few miles down the road was a field with a variety of flowers.

These photos don't do the flowers justice....they were so  beautiful.

Just for fun, I took the photo above and altered it in Photoshop to make it more "painterly".

Just Peachy

Last week we got about half a bushel of wonderfully tasty Elberta Fay peaches (straight off the tree).  Well, not exactly "straight off the tree", but straight off, then they traveled about 100 miles to Morro Bay, then we got them and drove them to Templeton.  These are undoubtedly the best peaches I've ever eaten.  Anyway,....we have been eating peaches everyday!  And.......

I made a peach pie!   And.............

Some peach preserves (with rum)!

And I still have peaches.
Yum!

Holy Chilies

A small wall hanging (about 8" x 8")

I scanned my photo of "Chimayo Holy Chilies" onto cloth, then sewed it to a gold background.  Free motion stitching with metallic threads, vintage lace, rickrack, old jewelery, hand rolled paper beads, old buttons with bead dangles.  Click on photo for a larger view.

Along Highway 1

Nothing  beats a summer outing along Highway 1 toward Big Sur.  The Blue skies and sparkling waves were a beautiful sight.  Most of the elephant seals were gone from the beach - probably stocking up on groceries, but there were a few big bullies roaring in the surf.  More tourists than seals, though.

Our goal today was lunch at Ragged Point - always a favorite stopping point.  Lunch is always tasty, and the views are spectacular!

Wind surfing always looks like a lot of fun, but I'm content to just watch - don't think I would want to try it out!
